In the spring of 2002, Jim Newsom, Director of Rivers of Living Water Ministries, invited Del Burkholder to assist him in several Pennsylvania State Correctional Institutions. Jim was traveling and ministering extensively throughout the country, and this created a need for assistance in the weekly Bible studies at the prisons he ministered to regularly. In the summer of 2003, Jim relocated to Louisville, Kentucky. Streams of Life Prison Ministry was born at this time. Reverend Delmar Weaver was added as an additional volunteer minister to assist Del in his work. Additional prisons were added over the years where Streams of Life ministers on a regular basis.

Del Burkholder and Delmar Weaver have been the principal ministers of the prison work over the years, even though there have been many others, including musicians that have, and continue to help with this ministry. Streams of Life teachers hold Bible studies and services in prisons. Streams of Life also publishes printed materials for inmates.

As of 2018 Streams of Life has merged into Support For Prison Ministries and now operates as a subsidiary ministry of SFPM. There will be no changes in the way Streams of Life Ministry operates in state prisons. While the two ministries function a bit differently, the common denominator is they both minister to the incarcerated.

Streams Life will operate within SFPM with its own finances and will continue to need financial support. If any desire to give, please write checks to Support For Prison Ministries, and earmark check for Streams of Life.
